Safety Award Competition

The Northern California Mechanical Contractors Association (MCA) Safety Committee’s Annual Safety Competition was created to demonstrate the safety commitment of our member companies and evaluate their progress. Twenty-three companies participated comparing their accident and work hours statistics for 2005.

The companies reported a total of over seven and one half million hours worked. Totaled together the companies’ incidence rate for OSHA recordable accidents was 4.2 per 100 full time employees and for lost time accidents was 0.9 per 100 full time employees. The national average rates for mechanical contractors are 8.1 and 3.9 respectively.

Results of the 2nd Annual Safety Award Competition:

Award winners with the lowest incidence rates in their size or market category:

• Performance Mechanical, Inc. - Over 300,000 Hours Category
• Ayoob and Peery Plumbing Co., Inc. - 100,000-300,000 Hours Category
• TNT Industrial Contractors, Inc. - Under 100,000 Hours Category
• Indoor Environmental Services - Service Category

The committee presented special awards to the companies below that had zero recordable accidents and zero lost time accidents for the entire year:

• Superior Mechanical Services, Inc. - Service Category
• Airco Commercial Services, Inc. ( Benicia) - Service Category
• TNT Industrial Contractors, Inc. - Service Category

The committee also recognized the following Most Improved Awards:

• Marina Mechanical - Most Improved Service
• Peterson Mechanical, Inc. - Most Improved Construction

Lescure Company, Indoor Environmental, Westates Mechanical, Broadway Mechanical, and Benicia Plumbing each experienced zero lost time accidents for the year.

All of these companies exemplify our association’s commitment to accident free workplaces. Congratulations to all the participants.
